2 Glocks - Many years have passed since I bought my first carry gun, a used Gen 2 Glock 19. stands out in a sea of black handguns on display. The lack of finger grooves on the Gen 2 appealed to me because the finger grooves on the 'new' Gen 3s didn't quite suit me and I didn't really get the need for a fancy Jew on the front to shoot the light with the gun-mounted lights yet.
This weapon accompanies me everywhere. Camping, hunting, fly-fishing, working long nights in hard countries as a locksmith, shooting local practice, he could do it all. Sure, I had other guns, but none of them were concealable and my trusty pair of G19s were still light enough to fire accurately. With its smooth action and unique appearance, there have been a few times where other guys in the queue have made an offer and offered to buy it. I politely refused all this.
2 Glocks
They were used, shining in the corners, scratched and dyed, each flaw telling the story of its journey. Tritium has failed night vision in the south and is only visible in the darkest conditions. I knew it was time to give up that old gear, but I felt like I was lying to an old dog.
Glocks To Look At
With each generation of Glock handguns released, I simply could not justify buying a replacement. Every new release has been delivered with such hype about their quality, but when I got them in my hands, while they were nice and some of the better ones exciting, they weren't "better than" to replace my faithful G19.
At the end of 2018, rumors began to circulate about Glock Inc. to present something that shows my interest in the 2019 launch. The legend was that a compact handgun with the thickness and slide dimensions of the G43 and the grip length of the G19 and another of the same frame and a longer lip that approximated the dimensions of the G19. Both new models feature a 10+1 magazine capacity. My main objection from the start to the G43 was its limited capacity to consider new offerings.
The rumors turned out to be true, and on January 2, 2019, Glock Inc. has announced two new additions to its product line. Glock 43X and Glock 48
A few days after its release, after reading the specs of both guns, I made a decision and picked up a new inspiration, the Glock 43X.
Gl 2 Nd
I chose the G43X simply because it was shorter and fit in the leather G43 that I already had in my previous test. I didn't see a distinct advantage to having a longer slide on the CCDW pistol. When I got my hands on this pistol, my first impressions were pretty solid. I found the silver PVD coating to be very aesthetically pleasing and the front serrations handy for daily control. The grip length was very comfortable, similar to the G19, and although somewhat thinner than the G19's grip, it filled my hand sufficiently for positive grip control under the threat of a much larger gun.
As with all Glock handguns, the sight and trigger work. Sights with this pistol are supplied with a plastic back with a "white target" outline and front white dots, which are standard fare for most factory groups. The trigger pull was tolerable but longer and heavier than I would have liked.
Prior to my first trip through the lineup, I installed a black Vickers Elite Battle Sight serrated rear sight and a Wilson Combat Snag Free Tritium front sight, resulting in a much clearer, useful picture and accurate vision. When purchasing this pistol with the intention of fulfilling the role of my EDC pistol, the steel construction of these Wilson Combat sights gave me much more confidence in their durability compared to the plastic ones.
Next on the list was the trigger. Shortly after the release of the G43X and G48, it was announced that the Cary G43 trigger system was compatible with these new models, making it the obvious choice of macro trigger. Since the G43 trigger system was assembled using OEM parts and springs, I could rest assured that there would be no compromise in reliability. After a simple installation, the trigger was immediately much better. The crisp and break was a little lighter than the factory trigger. The reduced previous development modification of the G43 "RP" trigger has removed much of the grip experienced when starting to pull the trigger compared to the stock trigger. The difference in trigger quality after installation was a sharp improvement.

Safely carried in the Bravo Storage case, the G43X's light weight and slim dimensions make it a dream to carry around all day. With a 10+1 capacity and a spare magazine, I don't feel as resourceful as I am shooting a lower capacity G43 or J-Frame.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase, and I think this gun, with its better sights and trigger, will be on my hip more often than most handguns available to me. As for my trusty old Glock 19, I guess it can go back to the padded top shelf in the safe...for now.

I have always believed that the instructor uses the same weapon that the students use. So I took it very seriously with a G17 or 19 in my holster. A self-defense handgun must be reliable. This is where the 9X19mm pistol bullets really excel over other models. I've used a few Glocks in my day, and one of the observations I've had is that if a Glock malfunctions, it's probably the quickest and easiest gun to clean. Generally, an immediate action drill (tap-rack-bang) will get the Glock back into action with the most common force trip failures.
If the gun is reliable, the only essentials required to use it well are good sights and the ability to handle the trigger well. Unfortunately, the first Glocks on the market had plastic sights that were not very sturdy and were easily damaged. The selection of aftermarket shocks is quite extensive with some of the best looking combinations available. Years ago I spoke with Rick Callahan of Ameriglo to create visuals that would meet my needs. His visions of "Hack" remain among his best sellers. The latest Gen5 Glocks (the best Glocks ever made) are now available with Ameriglo 'Bold or Agent' sights. They are proud. All the "cool kids" have embraced the red mini pistol sights. Fashions come and go.......I think red sight guns are the wave of the future. But, with the pros of the current plan added with the cons, I'm not ready to wade through that quagmire just yet.
In addition to good looks, the trigger needs good things. With the ball, soccer has always been a good match and a bad match. The best new shooters have learned the Glock trigger well. I see many people using the Glock with exceptional skill levels. I've owned Glocks from every generation. Gen 1 Glocks were actually very good triggers and if you were a double action revolver shooter, the early G17s were easily passed. In my experience, Gen 4 Glocks have been the worst trigger pulls…which brings me to Jeff Wilson and . Using stock parts, he developed a trigger system that was perfected and produced the best trigger. Jeff's right hand man, Adam Hjermenrud, is a wizard with Glock triggers and trigger systems that I use and recommend.
